Still finding my way back to myself.
One small step at a time.
Midlife isn’t about reinvention. It’s about reconnection.
Life gets busy.
We build careers. We raise families. We look after the people we love. We keep everything moving because that’s simply what we do.
And somewhere along the way, we realise we’ve spent years building a good life, but not always a life that feels like our own.
We become so good at looking after everyone else that we slowly lose sight of ourselves.
The good news is…
You’re still in there.
Let’s start making space for the woman you’ve always been.
That’s what Made in Midlife is all about.
Not changing who you are.
Not chasing perfection.
Not giving you another list of things you should be doing.
Just helping you reconnect with the woman you’ve always been.
One small step at a time.
⸻
Hi, I’m Dee.
Wife, mum and primary school teacher.
Like so many women, I spent years pouring my energy into helping everyone else learn and grow.
I love my work.
I love my family.
And I wouldn’t change either of them.
But if I’m honest, somewhere along the way I’d stopped making space for me.
It wasn’t that I was unhappy.
It was more that life had become one long mental to-do list.
There was always another snack to make.
Another email to answer.
Another load of washing reminding me it wasn’t going anywhere.
And somewhere amongst all of that, I’d stopped asking myself what I needed next.
Then one day I caught myself wondering…
When was the last time I stopped long enough to ask myself what I actually wanted—not what everyone else needed, just me?
It wasn’t a big life-changing moment.
I wasn’t suddenly bathed in a heavenly beam of light while orchestral music filled the air.
There wasn’t a dramatic decision to quit my job or skip town.
Life carried on exactly as before.
The difference was that I slowly started making room for me again.
The decision to silence my phone and leave it in my coat pocket when I walked through the door.
Choosing time with family and friends, knowing the washing and the to-do list could wait.
A game of cards with the girls.
Finally getting round to reading that book a good friend had been telling me to read for months.
Walking into the gym, desperately hoping nobody would notice I hadn’t got a clue what I was doing.
Tiny things, really.
None of them changed my life overnight.
But together they quietly reminded me who I was outside of all the roles I played.
Looking back, I wasn’t trying to become someone new.
I was simply finding my way back to myself.
And I’m still doing that.
Some days I feel like I’ve finally cracked it.
Other days you’ll find me sneaking toast over the kitchen sink, looking at a mountain of washing and wondering whose bright idea it was to say yes to absolutely everything.
Real life doesn’t suddenly become perfect.
And I don’t think it needs to.
That’s why I created Made in Midlife.
Not because I’ve got all the answers. I certainly don’t.
But because I know what it feels like to wake up one day and quietly wonder where you’ve gone.
If something I share encourages you to go for the walk…
Read the book…
Try the class…
Pick up the paintbrush…
Or simply sit down with a cup of tea for ten minutes without feeling guilty…
Then this little corner of the internet has done exactly what I hoped it would.
Because I believe we all deserve to build a life that doesn’t just look good from the outside—
it should feel like ours from the inside too.
